"In this portfolio I present a series of dresses that expose what I have to do as a woman; these are the roles that have been imposed upon me by my culture.
Women have to be at everyone's service, since there are expectations to adhere to and they must obey them all. In the end, women must comply with being good homemakers, good women, and good wives. We are treated as objects of beauty, pleasure, service and devotion.
In this series I hope to create conscience and empathy toward women. I want the audience to feel what we as women feel and hope to "dress" them with a new attitude toward us. My mission is to create awareness in order to change old traditions for new ones that show women more respect."—Cristina Velázquez
