"I am inspired by traditional art forms that allow me to articulate ideas about culture gender and notions of identity. Although I was trained as a painter, I have adopted crochet and embroidery for some years now. I am interested and at the same time revolted by the comic's reductive representation of women's bodies and identity.
I appropriate these images in hopes of liberating them from their pulp fiction world; merge embroidery and crochet with popular culture—Mexican comics—in an effort to understand how these two expressions interact and witness the new language that is generated through this interaction."—Blanka Amezkua
